In the first of a four part preview series, co-site experts Carson Merk and Roy Emanuel take a look at the Newcastle United shot stoppers.

After winning the Championship, Newcastle United return to the Premier League this weekend. Leading up to the opener against Tottenham, both of Newcastle Toons’ co-site experts analyze the Magpies’ current roster, position by position. We will start from the back with goalkeepers first.

On The Roster: Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow, Freddie Woodman, Tim Krul

Analysis
Carson Merk: While rumors are that Rafa has been searching high and low for a goalkeeper to bring in, personally I’m okay with Elliot as the first choice keeper. He brings Premier League experience and has looked strong in the preseason.
The backup spot gets a little more tricky. SBOBET I don’t think you must sell him, but if the money is right, I wouldn’t be opposed to Darlow being sold. Adrian or Cedric Carrasso could come in and push Elliot. If they sell Darlow, but can’t bring in a new keeper, maybe Woodman shouldn’t go out on loan as he’s expected to. He wouldn’t get the benefit of regular playing time, but it would give him a chance to see Premier League action up close. Krul has been told he isn’t a part of the plans Tyneside, so he isn’t a factor.
